Elders are lay members of the Leadership Team (JCLT) and must be a Member of the Church. The role of Elders is to set spiritual direction, doctrine, and discipline of the congregation, as well as meeting the spiritual needs of the congregation in prayer, spiritual care for the sick and infirm, and to provide godly counsel as required. The Elders must focus their attention on the performance of their duties as an Elder and are expected to recuse themselves, at their discretion, on matters that are outside of their main responsibilities. He must meet the standards for being an Elder set forth in the New Testament, including the standards set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9 and 1 Peter 5:2-3. An Elder may not also hold the role of Deacon.
